The Audi R8 e-tron Electric Supercar

Audi e-tron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Audi e-tron family is a series of electric and hybrid concept cars shown by Audi from 2009 onwards.

Audi R8 (road car) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Audi R8[4] (Typ 42)[6] is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car,[4][7] which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.[4][8] It was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006.
[...]

R8 e-tron

The Audi e-tron concept car was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. Similar in appearance to the R8, but slightly smaller, it is powered by four independent electric motors,[28] two mounted within the centre of the front axle and the other two within the rear axle, each produces 79 PS (58 kW; 78 bhp) and 1,125 newton metres (830 lbf·ft) of torque. It produces a total of 317 PS (233 kW; 313 bhp) and a sceptical 4,500 newton metres (3,319 lbf·ft) of torque. However the proposed torque rating is the torque measured at the wheels, not at the output shaft—as is the industry standard, the true torque rating being around 678 newton metres (500 lbf·ft).

First video of Audi R8 e-tron setting Nürburgring record | Fox News

Back in June Audi set the fastest lap time of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife for a produced-based electric car using its upcoming R8 e-tron. The final time for the electric supercar, which was piloted by German race car driver Markus Winkelhock, was a brisk 8:09.099.
Today we have a video of the epic achievement, showing the R8 e-tron covering the 12.92 miles of the Nürburgring both from inside and outside the cabin. One of the highlights of the video is the sound of the car (or lack thereof), with tire and wind noise proving dominant over the whine of the electric motors.

From motorsport to series production: the digital rear-view mirror

- Intelligent camera/monitor system ensures an ideal view
- New technology goes into series production with the Audi R8 e-tron
- Successful debut in the Audi R18 Le Mans race car

Audi is set to make driving even safer with a new technology: the digital rear-view mirror delivers brilliant images and is due to enter small-scale production in the Audi R8 e-tron at the end of this year. This model – like the current Le Mans winners – has no rear window and hence no conventional rear-view mirror. Its high-tech successor is the digital rear-view mirror – a camera/monitor system.

The Sandman an Electric Vehicle backed by Human Propulsion

Sandman | Environmentally conscious vehicle

Meet the Sandman. It's the official name of this four-wheeler, which is unlike any Holden panel-van we've ever known.

According to its designer, 20 year-old Slovakian Adam Danko, the single-occupancy vehicle was designed for young, active, environmentally-conscious people.

The Sandman's design recently won Europe's Allivision09 competition, a contest that focused on "Ideas for a Better World" and attracted about 650 entries.

Allivision09 Competition: the winners - Car Body Design

The Sandman is a type of transportation vehicle targeted to young and active people, who like sports and need an affordable and practical car. It is powered by a combination of human propulsion and an electric engine, which helps to pedal along.

"The winning project best met all criteria of the competition. It’s about clean design, which is very sovereign in its expression," commented Václav Capouch, Škoda Auto designer and one of the jury members of the Allivision09 competition.

One of the finer points about the Sandman is that it is both a city vehicle and an off-road alternative with all-terrain suspension fitted to both the front and rear.

A pair of joystick-style levers alongside the seat steer the Sandman's mountain-bike (or perhaps tractor) inspired tyres through the terrain.

For safety reasons the seat is adaptable and it comes with a seatbelt to keep you strapped in whether you're going over moguls or speed humps. The cockpit also houses an LCD readout screen.

Lit Motors' C-1 Gyroscopically Stabilized Electric Motorcycle

The "C-1" (Codename) "Rolling Smart Phone" | Lit Motors, Inc.

Introducing the C-1, the world's first gyroscopically stabilized rolling smart phone. This vehicle combines the efficiency and freedom of a motorcycle with the safety and convenience of a car. Offering the alternated to alternatives on an exciting and safe platform, the C-1 transforms your daily commute into something to look forward to.

The vehicle

So far, Kim and his team have developed an operating model of the C-1's flywheel-based stabilization system, along with a full-scale fiberglass mock-up of the vehicle itself. They are now working on a hand-built steel uni-bodied working prototype, which should reportedly be complete within about three months. Plans call for an initial run of production vehicles to be available at a price of about US$24,000 by late 2013, with that price going down to $16,000 once full production gets under way in 2014.
[...]

Keeping connected

As with many existing newer cars, the vehicle will also utilize various connectivity protocols to stay in contact with the internet. This will allow its driver to be continuously aware of factors such as traffic, construction, and adverse weather conditions - where applicable, alternate routes will be suggested.

This vehicle also employs KERS Kinetic Energy Recovery System in addition to both an aerodynamic shape and a low rolling resistance.

With KERS, whenever you use your brakes, that kinetic energy will be stored and used to assist in spinning up the flywheels. The flywheels sit near the bottom of the vehicle and both provide stability for the vehicle and deliver power to the drivetrain when you’re accelerating. Quite efficient! The C-1′s flywheel stabilization system allows you to balance in essentially any situation, as shown quite clearly in this lovely video:

An Electric Powered Rolls-Royce

Electric Rolls Royce Phantom 102EX

Phantom Experimental Electric one-off study makes its Geneva Motor Show debut.

As well as gathering data on how the model performs, the firm wants to know if an electric Rolls is something its buyers would accept and ultimately purchase. Speaking about the car, CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said: “We are seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable to drive Rolls-Royce cars of the future.”

There are no official plans to build an electric vehicle, but the concept will help the manufacturer identify an acceptable range to potential buyers, and establish how the car copes with a range of climatic conditions.

Although the engine of the new Rolls-Royce 120EX is fully electric it doesn't need plugging in

The electric Rolls-Royce uses "tried and tested electric technology", Mr Muller-Otvos said.

Though unlike most electric cars, it does not require owners to plug it in every day.
Instead, the car uses an inductive charging system, with a panel fixed under the car connecting remotely to a panel on the garage floor.

GM goes green with hybrid Hummer

Washington, DC - If you can't beat 'em, join 'em: General Motors is launching an electric Hummer claimed to produce near-zero emissions.

Demonstrated to members of Congress yesterday, the Electric Hummer was developed by Raser Technologies and FEV in cooperation with General Motors' Hummer division, and is aimed at that hard-to-please segment of the market that wants to pretend they are in a tank but still think of themselves as nice people.

Goliath turns green: The Hummer H3 gets charged up in Capital Hill, Washington D.C. as part of public demonstrations to promote the new model

The GM-owned Hummer joined forces with Raser Technologies 15 months ago to create a green vehicle with a whopping 600 pounds of lithium-ion battery packs.

Still resembling the typical indestructible look of a Hummer, the new model can travel 40 miles in all-electric mode before requiring a boost.

GM / Segway Project PUMA Concept - Auto Shows

A seemingly unlikely pair, General Motors and Segway, have teamed up to create a new type of personal transport vehicle. Dubbed Project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) and introduced at the New York auto show, the two-wheeled electric vehicle is essentially an upsized and modified Segway scooter with seating for two.

The Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility, or PUMA, project also would involve a vast communications network that would allow vehicles to interact with each other, regulate the flow of traffic and prevent crashes from happening.

The prototype runs on a lithium-ion battery and uses Segway's two-wheel balancing technology, along with dual electric motors. It's designed to reach speeds of up to 35mph and can run 35 miles on a single charge.

Think of it as a digital solution to an analog problem. Segway’s P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility) prototype represents the shift that’s needed for the future of transportation. It values less over more; taking up less space, using less energy, produced more efficiently with fewer parts, creating fewer emissions during production and operation, all while offering more enjoyment, productivity, and connectivity.
