Britannica Widgets

The Encyclopaedia Britannica recently launched its Britannica WebShare program with free online access for Web publishers, a Twitter stream and blog-friendly widgets.

In an effort to attract bloggers to link to their content, the Encyclopaedia Britannica has come out with web based initiatives - Webshare allows web publishers and bloggers link to Britannica articles, with their readers able to follow those links without an account, while Britannica Widgets allows publishers and bloggers to post an entire cluster of related Encyclopaedia Britannica articles on their blog or Web site. As their website describes it:

Getdeb -- Extra Software for Ubuntu Linux

Making the latest versions of software available for the current Ubuntu versions.

The current Ubuntu official packages update policy is limited to critical bug fixes. This policy implies that emerging applications are not available in the current already released and supported Ubuntu versions.

The getdeb project wants to overcome this limitation
Note: The GetDeb team may not follow the Debian/Ubuntu packagning guidelines meaning you should not expect the same level of quality control as you get from those. On the other hand you will be able to get usefull packages that will hardly get into Debian/Ubuntu due to policy constraints.

Massive gas field detected

clipped from www.centredaily.com

A deep reservoir of long-hidden natural gas, stretching from New York through Pennsylvania and into West Virginia, could pump more than $400 billion into the Mid- Atlantic economy and push the U.S. toward energy independence, a Penn State researcher has found.

Engelder

Penn State Geosciences professor Terry Engelder shows the natural hydrolic fractures that occurred in a sample of shale. Penn State Provided Photo

"Conservatively, we generally only consider 10 percent of gas in place as a potential resource," says Engelder. "The key, of course, is that the Marcellus is more easily produced by horizontal drilling across fractures, and until recently, gas production companies seemed unaware of the presence of the natural fractures necessary for magnifying the success of horizontal drilling in the Marcellus."
