NTT Com -- Aroma Emitting Signs and Phones

NTT Communications (NTT Com) has announced plans to begin testing its latest aroma-emitting digital sign technology, called “Kaoru Digital Signage,” in Tokyo. Earlier this year NTT already lanched Kaori Tsushin (fragrance communication) an online service, which instructs specified Web-connected devices to emit mood-heightening aromas.

NTT Com to Market Aroma-Emitting Digital Signage

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that beginning on August 26 the company will launch Japan's first service offering digital signs equipped with aroma-emitting devices to strengthen the impact of marketing communications. NTT Com believes this type of interactive signage could become a highly effective marketing tool.

NTT Com's signs, branded as Kaoru Signage (aroma signage), combine the company's Spot Media digital signage solution and Kaori Tsushin (fragrance communication) online service, which instructs specified Web-connected devices to emit mood-heightening aromas. Through the service, the images and sounds are transmitted from the sign, while the fragrance is emitted from the Kaori Tsushin device through an online connection.

The current system consists of a 12x20x6-in. aroma diffuser,19-inch display and the NTT Spot Media receiver, in use to help distribute thesmell and images from inside of the restaurant. The aromas emitted by thesign will change during the day, with a lemon and orange aroma in the afternoonand a woody aroma in the evening.

NTT will launcha pilot test in Tokyo, Japan from October 21 to the end of December. The sign in front of the Kirin City Beer Hall inside the Yaesu ShoppingMall will emit several different aromas designed to attract restaurant goers tothe restaurant. Working with the Air Roma Co. Ltd. company, more than 80scents are available for use in the restaurant area.

NTT Com to Pilot Test Mobile Fragrance Communication Service

TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that it will conduct a pilot test of its new Mobile Fragrance Communication (Kaori Tsushin Mobile) service, a mobile version of an existing service for enjoying downloaded audiovisual content together with specific fragrances that are emitted by a dedicated device. The pilot test will run from April 10 to 20.

NTT communications corp, a technology company in Japan is keen on developing a modern technology called Kaori Tsushin, which is Fragrance communications to aid in this. The Service Gateway device, shown above, allows you to edit and share your Fragrance Playlists with other users through the Internet. Docomo hopes to eventually allow other companies to employ the technology to deliver unique experiences around ringtones, video games, full-length music files, as well as within the housing and automotive industries. Despite the conservative plans of Docomo, the mind reels when considering the psychedelic possibilities hackers would bring to such a new technology space.
