This video shows teamplay/cooperation and obstacle avoidance by the autonomous humanoid robots of the Darmstadt Dribblers team. The robots negotiate their roles via wifi, with the robot closest to the ball selecting the striker role and the other one staying back as supporter. Striker Isra then kicks the ball past the opponent and finally scores.
After scoring the goal our robots can be seen cheering.

Microscope On A Chip

Researchers at Caltech recently developed a revolutionary new type of microscope without lenses. The device is compact enough to be put in a cell phone and can use just sunlight for illumination. This makes it very appealing for Third-World applications,

Bioengineers Develop 'Microscope On A Chip'

ScienceDaily (July 29, 2008) — Researchers at the California Institute of Technology have turned science fiction into reality with their development of a super-compact high-resolution microscope, small enough to fit on a finger tip. This "microscopic microscope" operates without lenses but has the magnifying power of a top-quality optical microscope, can be used in the field to analyze blood samples for malaria or check water supplies for giardia and other pathogens, and can be mass-produced for around $10.

Monitoring Health Through Music of the Genes

Future doctors could monitor health through music of the patients' genes by using a new method where gene expressions, the process by which a gene's DNA sequence is converted into the functional proteins of a cell, are transformed into into musical sounds. In the acoustic translation, harmony represents good health, and discord indicates disease.

Crave AsiaGolfzilla isn't that cool, but it lets you play golf on Google Maps with the option to select the country and the course. So instead of fancy 3D graphics, you are actually playing as if you were on the ground, but from a bird's eye view. The final release of Golfzilla is expected to be available at the end of 2008 and will support P2P battle mode using GTalk. That's pretty much in line with the expected launch of Android.

    Optical illusion

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion) is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. The information gathered by the eye is processed by the brain to give a percept that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. There are three main types of illusion - literal optical illusions that create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological illusions that are the effects on the eyes and brain of excessive stimulation of a specific type - brightness, tilt, color, movement, and cognitive illusions where the eye and brain make unconscious inferences.

Google ventures into virtual reality with 'Lively'

Google thinks Lively will encourage even more people to dive into alternate realities because it isn't tethered to one Web site like Second Life, and it doesn't cost anything to use. After installing a small packet of software, a user can enter Lively from other Web sites, like social networking sites and blogs.

The Lively application already works on Facebook, one of the Web's hottest hangouts, and Google is working on a version suitable for an even larger online social network, News Corp.'s MySpace.
